1100 kVA Scania Twinpack Biodiesel Generator Solution

ADE Power were contacted by a construction management specialist with an enquiry for a more eco-friendly power generation solution. Their end client, a manufacturer of cutting edge decarbonisation-centred electric power systems, was in need of a 1000 kVA (800 kW) generator system that was able to be run purely on biodiesel.

Biodiesel is a cleaner alternative to traditional petroleum-based diesel, made via a process that transforms natural sources such as vegetable oils, recycled cooking oils, algae, and animal fats into usable engine fuel. Its key advantage is the reduced environmental impact - biodiesel generates lower emissions than conventional diesel, considerably minimising carbon monoxide production, and reducing harmful pollutants and particulates.

While many power generation engine manufacturers rate their engines for HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) as well as diesel, few also approve the use of biodiesel. One manufacturer that does is Scania. However, Scania power generation engines can only produce up to 550 kVA.

This cleverly-engineered ADE AS1100D5 Twinpack solution houses 2 x 550 kVA Scania generator sets inside a standard 20-foot ISO container, resulting in a total power output of 1100 kVA / 880 kW standby (1000 kVA / 800 kW prime).

Designed for applications with variable power requirements, this solution provides versatility, optimised performance, and excellent fuel economy, due to there being 2 gensets which will automatically run either individually or in parallel.

The purpose-modified container also houses 2 x 1000 litre fuel tanks, an intelligent control and monitoring system, and small light and power, and features access and maintenance doors, lifting points, forklift pockets, external refuelling points, and acoustic and ventilation features.

  • Excellent Cooling Performance: Specially designed to achieve excellent engine/alternator cooling performance and ensure maximum power operation at 1000m altitude and ambient temperatures up to 50°C without derating.
  • Fuel Economy: Up to 25% lower fuel consumption compared to standard 1100 kVA units.
  • Cost Efficient: Offers cost savings in the unit purchase, spare parts, operation, and maintenance.
  • Frequency Convertible: Supports both 50Hz and 60Hz operation.
  • Flexible Power Expansion: Multiple units can be combined into an easy to operate larger power cluster. A maximum of 8 units (16 gensets) are supported in parallel.
